Start with the service, not the charger
Most EV charger installations go wrong in the same place: somebody sells the hardware before anybody checks whether the electrical service can carry it. A Level 2 charger is a substantial continuous load on a dedicated 240-volt circuit, and on an older service that is not a given.
We start with capacity. If the panel and service will carry the charger, the job is a dedicated circuit and a clean install. If they will not, you have a real choice to make between upgrading the service and using load management — and you should make it knowing the numbers rather than after the charger is on the wall.

EV charging, answered
Will my existing panel support a charger?
Not always, and that is the first thing to check. A Level 2 charger wants a dedicated 240-volt circuit, and whether your service and panel have the capacity depends on the size of the service and what is already on it. We do a capacity check before quoting rather than after.
What if the service is too small?
Two routes. Either the service and panel get upgraded, which is work we do anyway, or load management is used so the charger backs off when the rest of the house is drawing hard. Which one makes sense depends on the panel and on what else you plan to add.
Do you install commercial and fleet charging?
Yes. Commercial and fleet deployments start with a service capacity analysis, then circuit and conduit infrastructure sized for the number of ports you want now and the ones you will want later, through to final commissioning.
