The panel itself is the point. Every breaker position is metered and switchable from the SPAN app, so you can see what each circuit is drawing and turn things off remotely. More usefully, the panel manages loads on its own: when an EV charger, heat pump or water heater would push the service past its limit, SPAN briefly sheds the lower-priority load and restores it. That is how a Level 2 charger often fits on an existing 200-amp service with no utility service upgrade, no new meter base and no trenching.
Paired with a battery, the panel decides which circuits stay live in an outage, and you can change that from your phone while the power is out.

Usually yes. Options are a load-management device, a subpanel, or a SPAN smart panel, which manages loads so a Level 2 charger fits on a 200-amp service without a utility upgrade. We are a SPAN Authorized Installer. We look at your panel and the service size before quoting.
Does a SPAN panel need a permit and inspection?
Yes. It is a main panel replacement, so it is permitted and inspected like any other panel upgrade in Hoke or Cumberland County. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection as part of the job.
